PRINCE RUPERT – Premier John Horgan and federal BC Liaison MP Nathan Cullen are meeting with Northwest business leaders, First Nations, and community agencies this week to bring a combined federal/provincial focus to some of the opportunities and challenges facing the people of the Northwest.
“I’ve met with John and his cabinet several times since being appointed the federal NDP’s BC Liaison in January. This is my first opportunity to personally accompany John out of Victoria and I’m happy to visit towns in Skeena-Bulkley Valley,” Cullen said.
“John really understands the need to balance jobs and resource development with protecting BC’s increasingly fragile natural environment.
“Prior to becoming Premier, John spent years working on natural resource and rural issues that put him in touch with development and environment issues happening today here in the Northwest and across BC.”
Cullen said he is also looking forward to meeting with two dozen young entrepreneurs in Prince Rupert later today to discuss their early-career experiences in the emerging economy in Northwest BC.
Horgan, Cullen and North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice invite residents to join them for a free public social at Prince Rupert’s Oceanview Pub from 6:30-8:30pm tonight. In Terrace tomorrow, Cullen and Horgan will be at the Elephant's Ear from 5-7pm for a public coffee social.
Cullen’s new liaison role to BC, a first for the federal NDP shadow Cabinet and designed to mirror that of the Caucus Quebec lieutenant, will see Cullen serve as a critic for all issues of particular importance to British Columbians, including environmental and coastal protection and electoral reform.
