Winner Chosen in Create your Canada Competition

Smithers, BC- Congratulations to Ben Korving from Terrace, B.C. on winning the Create Your Canada contest!

Our panel of judges were made up of community leaders across Northwestern B.C. received over 100 different submissions for ideas to make Canada an even better country. Among the many bold and brilliant ideas, the judges chose Mr. Korving’s timely and pressing submission. His bill would ban all consumer packaging products that aren’t either recyclable or compostable.

“Plastics and non-compostable production are increasing at an alarming rate and the federal government needs to wake up,” said Nathan Cullen (MP, Skeena-Bulkley Valley). “We need big changes to our laws and the leadership from citizens like Ben will help us deal with this urgent problem. I look forward to meeting Mr. Korving in Ottawa and presenting his bill before my colleagues.”

Nathan will be flying Mr. Korving to Ottawa in early 2019 to watch his idea turned into a bill and tabled in the House of Commons.

“I want to thank everyone who entered the contest,” said Cullen. “We received creative and inspiring ideas from all over Northwestern B.C. Your submissions make me proud to serve the wonderful people of Skeena-Bulkley Valley.”
