Statement by MP Nathan Cullen on Canada Day
July 1st, 2013 - 11:51am
JULY 1, 2013
Today, as residents of Skeena-Bulkley Valley join Canadians from coast to coast to coast in celebrating our great country’s 146th birthday, I ask that you reflect on what it means to be Canadian.
Please take a moment to think about the many privileges that we take for granted living in what is surely the best country in the world.
From freedom of speech to public medical care to personal and national safety and security, we are fortunate to live in a nation that places equal emphasis on individual rights and collective responsibilities.
We are world leaders in many forms of arts, culture, commerce, science, entrepreneurship and humanities. We care passionately about our natural environment and are committed to preserving this great gift to enjoy both today and tomorrow.
We are a democratic, prosperous and progressive country that celebrates diversity, whether economic or cultural, with pride and confidence. We understand that our diversity makes us stronger and richer as a nation.
Whether this is your first Canada Day or you’ve been here all your life, let’s reflect on our many privileges and accomplishments and continue working together to build an even better Canada.
