Joint Review Panel for Enbridge seeks public comment

Joint Review Panel for the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project Requests Comments from the Public

CALGARY The Joint Review Panel (the Panel) conducting the review of the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Project has issued a Procedural Direction, asking people interested in the project to comment on specific issues related to the application and the hearing process.

The Procedural Direction asks people to comment on: 1.  a draft List of Issues); 2.  additional information which Northern Gateway should be required to file; and 3.  location(s) for the oral hearing.

The Panel would like to hear comments on these topics before issuing a Hearing Order, which would outline the participation options and the procedural process for this Panel review.

As outlined in the Procedural Direction, comments can be shared with the Panel in writing or in person at an upcoming Panel session.

Submitting written comments

The Panel encourages written comments. A form for submitting comments can be found on the Panel’s website (www./ Written comments must be received no later than noon Mountain Daylight Time on Wednesday, 8 September 2010.

Submitting comments in person

Panel sessions to hear oral comment on the above topics will be held at Whitecourt, Alberta on August 10 and the following B.C. locations:

Kitimat River Lodge    August 31, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Prince George Civic Centre Centre September 8, starting at 9:00 a.m.


Those interested in participating in one of the Panel sessions are asked to register in advance by Wednesday, August 18.  Please use the online registration form found on the Panel’s website or submit the form by fax or mail to the address previously listed.

The proposed project involves the construction of two 1,170 kilometre long pipelines running between Bruderheim, Alberta and Kitimat, British Columbia and the construction and operation of the Kitimat Marine Terminal, together with all related facilities and works.

About the Joint Review Panel

The Joint Review Panel for the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project is an independent body, mandated by the Minister of the Environment and the National Energy Board.

The Panel will assess the environmental effects of the proposed project and review the application under both the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and the National Energy Board Act.
