TERRACE – The breadth and volume of tributes pouring in for former Terrace mayor Jack Talstra following his passing early today are a testament to the high regard and affection Northwest communities have for an extraordinary man, says Nathan Cullen.

“It says a great deal about Jack Talstra that he is being remembered today by people of all political stripes and walks of life as a city leader who was always courteous, fair, friendly and able to see the humor in a situation.

“I too have always admired these qualities about Jack, as well as his strong work ethic and obvious love for his community.”

Cullen noted that in a region known for the longevity of its municipal leaders, Talstra was no exception.  “Jack proudly served the City of Terrace as mayor from 1985-2008 and as an alderman for five years before that.

“Jack kept a steady hand on the tiller of Terrace through some incredibly challenging times, and through some of the city’s most historic highlights.”

Jack Talstra, a prominent lawyer in Terrace for many years, passed away at Mills Memorial Hospital this morning at the age of 68.
