Cullen to Fisheries Minister: Do Your Job

OTTAWA

– Earlier today Nathan Cullen stood in the House of Commons to, once again, call upon the Conservative cabinet to do its job and pay attention to the sockeye salmon collapse of this summer.

Pointing to the abysmal 2009 returns of the two largest sockeye producing rivers in BC, the Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP outlined the disastrous impacts: economical, cultural and environmental.

“All the while, the minister was off in Europe with 50 of her fish farm friends, all on the taxpayer’s dime, rather than doing her job for Canada’s west coast.”

Repeating the call for an emergency summit and immediate action plan, Cullen identifies the need to examine what happened to the sockeye and how the fishermen will survive to fish another season.

“We simply ask the government to do its job.”
