Cullen to BC Conservatives: 48 to show who you work for
March 30th, 2015 - 3:47pm
OTTAWA – MP Nathan Cullen (Skeena—Bulkley Valley) is challenging Conservative MPs from British Columbia to prove who they really work for in the next 48 hours by voting for Bill C-628, An Act to Defend the Pacific Northwest. The bill would enact a ban on crude oil supertankers on BC’s North Coast, while also instructing the National Energy Board to give more meaningful consultation to First Nations and communities, and to assess value-added job impacts, when considering energy projects like the Northern Gateway pipeline.
“Do they work for the Prime Minister and his oil lobby friends, or do they work for the people who sent them to this place from British Columbia?” Cullen asked, during the final moments of debate on the bill this morning in the House of Commons.
A vote on the bill is scheduled for Wednesday evening. The bill is expected to receive support from NDP, Liberal, Green and independent MPs.
