Buy a burger next Friday to support orphaned and injured wildlife

SMITHERS – The burgers will soon be sizzling in Smithers in support of orphaned and injured wildlife as MP Nathan Cullen’s annual community barbeque fires up to help out the Northern Lights Wildlife Society and its large menagerie of animals in need.
“Angelika and her crew are struggling to feed an unprecedented wave of baby bears the shelter has taken in since last winter,” Cullen said today.
“Northern Lights is caring for 25 cubs right now, which are really overwhelming resources, and the shelter will likely take in at least that many more baby bears this fall.”
Every summer, Cullen partners with local non-profit organizations in Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat and Prince Rupert to help raise funds for valued resources in those communities. Generous community support and donations have contributed over $50,000 to local non-profits since Cullen began co-hosting annual summer barbeques in 2005.
Cullen’s 2016 Smithers’ community BBQ is set for Friday, August 26 from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Bovill Square. Burgers, hot dogs and cold drinks are again generously donated by local merchants. Barbeque guests also eat by donation.
“We’re encouraging everyone to come out in support of Northern Lights Wildlife Society and the great work this hardworking group of volunteers does to house and care for wild animals in need,” Cullen said.
